face/edge grain boards
Face and edge grain boards are popular since they are usually made from various species of wood. The pros? Good looks, great value, easier to build and finish! They are however often sold as cutting boards for chopping, but are best for serving since edge and face grain will show knife marks easily.
end grain boards
End grain boards are meant for chopping and cutting. The knife cut marks slip between end grain fibres. These boards tend to be expensive due to the complex build and finishing process but work best as an all-in-one board for cutting, chopping and serving!
Single-piece boards
Single-piece boards are meant to be used as serving trays, charcuterie boards and cheese boards. They are made from a singe piece of wood, which allows the beauty of the face grain to be displayed. Chopping on a single-piece board will ruin the face by showing cut marks. They should not be used as cutting boards.
BEHIND THE CRAFT
Like many hobbies and interests. It starts with a passion. For me it was a passion for building and fixing things that I learned from my father, which sparked an interest in me to be curious and to want to tinker and create....to be a Maker.
